Faster Results with New Pump Service Technology

The New and Improved GPM Pump Service and Repair Center

It happens to the best of us. A critical piece of equipment goes down, and your entire operation comes to a standstill. You send your equipment out for service and watch the hours or days pass by until you can reinstall and get back to work.

Although our expert technicians and engineers move quickly to resolve issues and repair pumps, we wanted to do more for our customers. We know our customers rely on us to get them back on track, so we started to think about how we could improve our processes. How could we provide quicker responses and shorter repair turnaround without cutting corners?

High Expectations + High-Quality Service

Because we are dedicated to providing high-quality services to our customers, we took a good hard look at how we do things at the GPM Service and Repair Center. We evaluated what was working, what wasn’t and where we could become even stronger.

Through internal process evaluations with key personnel, we identified several efficiency improvement initiatives. We focused on significantly reducing the time it takes to complete pump inspections, provide quotes and deliver repair inspection reports to our customers. We also saw value in introducing more technology on the shop floor. Appropriate technology gives us the opportunity to expand on our inspection reports and improve process efficiency. We take great pride in our industry-leading repair documentation package, but unanimously agreed it was time to set our sights higher.

Adopting Technology to Streamline Operations

Each work area in the Duluth GPM Service and Repair Center is now equipped with a computer workstation providing our technicians easy access to all the information they need to complete a detailed pump assessment quickly and efficiently. The program and files created for each pump repair ready our service technicians with the critical information, such as general arrangement (GA) drawings, pump part drawings and specifications, IOM manuals, bill of materials and engineering bulletins. With this information at their fingertips, our technicians have dramatically shortened our service delivery time.

We developed an improvement plan over several months, making investments to our shop infrastructure, building out computer programs from scratch and training all internal personnel on the new processes and systems.

Results That Speak for Themselves

We have already seen vast improvements since rolling out the new processes and technology. Our quote delivery timeline has decreased by as much as 70% in many instances. Equally important, we are also able to deliver an even higher level and more detailed repair inspection report for our customers.
